Standout Tile
Paint and wallpaper are two materials that most people think of when they want to add personality and color to a room. But tile can definitely bring the bling through pattern, color, sheen, and dimension. Here are a few ways that I’ve used tile to make a statement in my projects.
Modern Geometry
Black and white is classic, but to add more drama I selected a geometric pattern of squares for the floor. And the timeless subway tiles on the walls have a lot of texture, creating movement and visual interest. The result is a shower that’s anything but basic.
Color Wheel
Any color you can dream of can be found in tile today, which means we can create fun looks like the one above. I chose another classic shape - penny tile - but went for a lovely lavender in glass. It is a great look for the bathroom connected to a little girl’s room!
Go for Glam
Metal accents really add a glam style to tile. It’s a subtle sophistication that looks perfect in this home bar I created. The silver highlights the garden gate-inspired shape of the tile.
Dimensional Design
Tile can form incredible patterns - almost like an Escher drawing. In the kitchen above, dimensional tile adds a lot of visual interest to an otherwise quietly neutral space.
Stunning Stripes
One fun way to use tile is to create stripes in the same type of tile, but with different colors. In the bathroom I designed above, that turquoise stripe complements the wallpaper for a cohesive look.
Add Whimsy
By playing with different sizes, shapes, and patterns, tile lets you create whimsical looks that really give a room personality. In a bathroom floor above, I designed a bubble pattern that was inspired by a big bubble bath - it’s a fun look that my clients loved!
Get in the Mix
No matter what, don’t be afraid to play with tile in a room. Mix things up, combine different patterns, try something new. And if you’re nervous about finding the right look for your home, give us a call. We love to work in tile, as you can tell!
All the best,
Kara
