3 Ways That a Customized Range Hood Can Transform Your Kitchen

The first thing you think about when you dream about your ideal kitchen is probably not the range hood. In fact, I would say it’s one of the last things most homeowners consider. But that functional vent is not only important for how your kitchen works, it also attracts a lot of attention. When you walk into a kitchen, the hood is right at eye level, and it’s usually very large. So you can’t avoid looking at it almost immediately. That’s why I recommend unique or custom range hoods for my clients. Here are three reasons for why you should consider them, too.

Design by Jeanne Chung, featuring my custom built 88” Quintana hood

1. A Statement Piece

In a wow-worthy kitchen like the one above, a production-line range hood would have been completely out of place. That kitchen - designed by Jeanne Chung of Cozy Stylish Chic for her Pasadena, CA, showoroom - needed a statement piece that could hold its own. Jeanne chose a custom built 88” Quintana hood from my collection with Thompson Traders. It is a stunning metal hood that doesn’t shrink into the background! It adds a touch of glam in a truly beautiful kitchen design.

2. Unique Style

When you have a custom kitchen with bespoke cabinetry and its own unique style, why would you add a boring range hood into the mix? There are so many options for how you can encase the vent system, from metal to tile to stone to wood. In the coastal kitchen I designed above, we used the tile from the backsplash and wall to cover the hood. It’s a one-of-a-kind look that my clients won’t find anywhere else, and it gives this kitchen a gorgeous style.

3. Cohesive Look

Not every kitchen design has to have a range hood that stands out. Sometimes you would rather it blend in a bit more, like in the kitchen above. The only way to achieve that look is with a custom hood design, in this case one that matches the surrounding cabinetry. This is also a lovely option that proves you don’t always have to shout to be noticed.
