4 Reasons to Select a Metal Sink

There are so many material choices available when selecting a sink for the kitchen or bath - but I’m always drawn to metal. There’s a warmth and style you get with metal sinks that you don’t see with traditional ceramic or stone. It’s one of the reasons that I created my own collections with Thompson Traders, an incredible company that specializes in metal work. There are so many reasons to choose a metal sink, but here are the top four that I list for my clients during the selection process.

1. Chic and Distinct

In the powder room I designed above, I wanted a special and chic design for the bathroom vanity. The mixed metal model from my Quintana collection definitely fit the bill. That glow you get with metal is so distinct, and this style creates a look that you definitely won’t find in your neighbor’s home.

2. Durability

Metal is such a durable material, so it’s the perfect choice for a kitchen sink. Dropping a pot or pan into this sink is not going to chip the surface, which can definitely happen with a ceramic or cast iron sink. A metal design is going to stand up to whatever you and your family dish out for years and years, and it will look fabulous, too.

3. Easy to Maintain

Metal sinks need very little upkeep to continue looking gorgeous. In fact, depending on the material, you can get a lovely patina as the metal ages. Copper sinks especially become even more beautiful over the years. Just avoid super-abrasive materials - a wipe with a soft cloth is about all you need!

4. Natural Germ Fighters

Metal sinks are much easier to keep clean, with many forms of metal harboring far fewer bacteria and microbes than other materials. In fact, copper is an antimicrobial metal that naturally fights off germs. That makes it a great choice for kitchens and bathrooms, where you want to avoid those illness-inducing microbes.
